Philosopher, eminent pedagogue and politician, Confucius is one of the great figures of the civilization

Putting man at the center of his concerns and refusing to speak of spirits or death, Confucius did not found religion in the Western sense of the term, even if a cult was dedicated to him later. Seeking to found a positive morality, structured by "rites" and enlivened by "sincerity", emphasizing study and rectitude, Confucius represents for pre-Revolutionary Chinese the educator par excellence, but a careful reading of the Interviews shows that he did not want to set himself up as a master of thought, and that on the contrary he wanted to develop in his disciples a critical mind and personal reflection: "I lift a corner of the veil, if the student cannot discover the other three, too bad for him. He died in April 11, 479 BC at the city of Qufu.
